PFCD Applauds Recent Progress on the Alzheimer's Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act to Help People Living with Alzheimer’s

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) applauds two major milestones reached this week for the bipartisan Alzheimer's Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act (HR 6130/S 3267). The bill received strong bipartisan support in a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday before being unanimously passed by the House Ways and Means Committee yesterday – marking a significant step forward in the effort to ensure Medicare coverage keeps pace with advances in Alzheimer's science.

This week’s developments reflect a growing bipartisan consensus that earlier diagnosis can fundamentally change the trajectory of Alzheimer's care. Blood tests offer a more accessible pathway to detecting signs of the disease earlier – but their promise is only meaningful if patients can actually access them. Current Medicare rules stand in the way of future tests potential to be used as screening tools. The ASAP Act addresses that gap directly by creating a Medicare coverage pathway for FDA-cleared blood tests for Alzheimer’s screening. The legislation will help expand access, empower patients and families to make informed decisions about their care and future planning, and help reduce disparities.
